‘BPM: Bullets Per Minute’ (PC) Review

When Doom was given a facelift, there was a speed and style to it that was new and refreshing. There was a certain rhythm you created in the chaos, and when you found that perfect speed you were flying around the battles bashing in skulls and blowing up the monsters you encounter. This was one of the things that made Doom feel so refreshing, which is why BPM: Bullets Per Minute brings that same enjoyment to the player.

The premise for BMP: Bullets Per Minute is pretty simple, shoot to the rhythm, reload to it, in fact do everything to it other than actually move around. It’s a simple premise, the enemies you encounter have little in relation to the limited storyline you are given, and the focus is very much on action. While this may seem like weaknesses, in fact it is the strength of BPM: Bullets Per Minute.

While this premise does have a limited shelf life, for while it lasts for the player, the game works well. Gaining more destructive weapons, gaining boons to improve your character, and even advancing to new and more improved characters keeps things entertaining, and who can say no to a good FPS game? Because this in it’s basic form is what this is, a damn good shooting game.

As well as being an FPS, BPM: Bullets Per Minute is a rouge-like and the aim is to improve your powerful character and become a better fight, all of course to the rhythm. The rhythm is important, and it keeps the player focused on moving around the map, and defeating the enemies that just keep on coming. You move from room to room destroying everything in front of you until you are the victor.

When the game first starts, this is actually quite a hard feat. As the game progresses though and you gain strength, in no time you are bringing destruction to everything that moves. It works well, and is fun. That is the key, and what else could you want from a game like this? One answer of course is longevity.

This isn’t a game that will keep you engrossed for a long time, but while it lasts, it is fun and it does exactly what it is meant to. If that is what you are looking for, then BPM: Bullets Per Minute is a very good game, just don’t expect the excitement to last forever.

Single-player FPS games aren’t made to last a long time, they offer instant gratification and then get lost in our big libraries of games we may play in the future. BPM: Bullets Per Minute is a good game that may not last as long as you may want it to, but while you are enjoying it, it’s that exact dose of rhythmical destruction that you have been looking for.

BPM: Bullets Per Minute is available for the PC now.
