A new eSports platform has launched this month, designed to become the biggest portal for beginner and professional online gamers alike. The website has some very bold aspirations. It’s hoping to become the world’s number-one online resource and community for eSports whilehelping to promote eSports coverage on the same level as television coverage of live sport. The site already features many pieces of content on eSports games, events and releases, with all esports.com members given the freedom to create their own unique content in terms of written guides and online videos. This depth of information at the fingertips of eSports fans will make it easier than ever to recognise the best eSports talent when watching live action online or on television. Online bettors can check out eSports odds with an increasing number of online bookmakers offering markets on the leading eSports events such as League of Legends and Dota.

Regular content creators will be rewarded for their efforts to raise the profile of eSports with eSports Reward Tokens (ERT), a crypto token which is now tradeable following an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) on Coinexchange and C-Cex. The platform is created by gamers, for gamers, but the community won’t prevail without the financial contribution of its users. The portal will feature an online shop, allowing esports.com members to purchase merchandise based on their favourite eSports teams, as well as gaming hardware, chairs and even coaching lessons from the professionals. All of which is paid in cash or ERT earned through community content creation.

Esports.com already boasts current partnerships with brands in the eSports community. It works closely with app store, Overwolf.com, which provides more than 300 apps for desktop PC gaming titles to enhance gameplay. Meanwhile, sponsorship agreements are already in place on a wider scale too, with leading professional handball outfit THW Kiel and the Celebrity Darts World Championship, which is broadcast on the German-based TV station, ProSieben. The community already boasts an active YouTube channel, with almost 2,000 subscribers already getting access to exclusive interviews and coaching videos in English and German.

It’s certainly the right time for a platform of this kind to make a bold bid for supremacy in the world of eSports. As a global industry, eSports revenues are growing exponentially year-on-year. According to Newzoo, revenues in 2017 were expected to hit $696m, with revenues expected to exceed the $1.5bn mark by the turn of the next decade.

Communities such as esports.com will only serve to ramp up the potential audiences for professional eSports. In 2017 there were 191 million eSports enthusiasts that would religiously watch online content, as well as 194 million occasional viewers. That figure is expected to exceed 300 million in 2020, with 286 million eSports enthusiasts predicted at this point. The esports.com will also endeavour to grow the popularity of the industry in continental Europe, with Asia currently a dominant marketplace, accounting for more than half (51%) of all eSports enthusiasts in 2017.
