‘WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection’ Review

If you are a fan of professional wrestling then you’ll know the interesting history of Kurt Angle. One of the best athletes in sports entertainment, his return to the WWE is something both he and the fans have been waiting for. In WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection, we get to relive some of his greatest moment, and hear about them from the man himself.

Kurt Angle

It is fair to say that Kurt Angle has had a controversial time in the strange business that is sports entertainment, but wherever he has found himself (be it WWE or TNA) he has always been at the top-level of the business. That is why, for fans of the wrestler, this is a must-buy collection.

Starting from his beginnings in the WWE we get to see some of this best matches in his career. Luckily for fans of WWE this means we get to see him fight legends such as The Undertaker, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and pretty much any other star that WWE has had (at least when he was wrestling for them).

This is a WWE release of course, so you won’t find any TNA fights here, which is a shame. What you do get though is Angle talking about his memories of each match and the wrestlers of WWE, and he shows a love of the business that is infectious. This is what makes the near 9 hours of wrestling so easy to watch.

One thing that is noticeable is the fact that this release doesn’t have any special features, and there is no Blu-ray option. The DVD only release could come from the fact that it isn’t really worth releasing a HD version without the HD matches, but the lack of special features is disappointing. If not for more matches, his many comic moments could have been collected together.

Away from the lack of special features though, WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection features many classic matches that remind you not only how good Angle can be, but also how good WWE was back then. That isn’t to say it isn’t good now, it is just that these Kurt Angle matches were some of the best the company had when he was in WWE.

The release of this collection comes as no surprise of course, especially the timing. Now back on WWE television and part of the Hall of Fame, there is a feel that Angle could have his “one more match” moment. What the WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection does is to remind us what we could get in that last match. With rumblings of Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar being rumoured (and unlikely to happen) this is a reminder of what we could get.

Fans of WWE will love this collection, and I’m sure that Kurt Angle fans already have this collection ordered. Whatever we think about his history outside of the ring, WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection is a look at one of the WWE’s best at the top of his game, and that makes it unmissable.

WWE: Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection is out now in the UK on DVD.
