An Early Look Of The Long Awaited Samsung Galaxy 8

Smartphones is basically a mini-computer which you carry around with you all day. And most of the modern smartphones have systems inside them more powerful than those that took the Apollo 11 into space and landed it on the moon. Build to last, physically and software wise, the newest and best giants in this field come with a hefty price tag. No other than the Samsung Galaxy 8 is tipped to kick Apple’s iPhone8 out of the water in 2017. Having just released last month in April, the full power of this beast is yet to be unleashed.

The basics

Let’s be real, smartphone exterior designs have become rather stale. They all look virtually the same, with a big rectangle box shape and slim squared-off corners being the norm of design. The Galaxy 8 has a 6.2-inch screen and around $700 price tag on average. The device comes in three colors as standard; dark black, a light silver and a gray with a slight blueish hue. The S8 weighs in at 155g, but the feel is balanced and stiff. This weight increase is that of 3g compared to its previous generation of the S7. The volume and standby switches are joined with a new button on the side panel; called the Bixby button. The good old microSD slot continues to sit tucked away with a nano-SIM to join it. The Qi wireless charging is also present, and the S8 is water and dust-resistant at standard test values. It will survive a 1.5-meter plunge into water for up to 30 minutes.

Performance and software

For Americans, the smartphone will most likely rely on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. British and European counterparts will rely on the Exynos 8895 chipset. Each CPU options is very similar, and up to par, so there’s no point getting too fussy. Both options are the fastest CPU currently on the market, with a 10nm process involved for better efficiency. Is CPU really that important these days? Well here’s something you didn’t know about mobile phones and the way most people use them that answers that questions.

The device comes with 4GB of RAM and together fits a 64GB internal storage. For you music and movie junkies who need even more room, the S8 supports microSD cards with up to 256GB of extra storage. Although not many advantages have been found by using Snapdragon 821, the latest processors have been future-proofed with regards to being able to dock in, the most recent updates which the industry may see coming in for the next two years. The software system runs on the Android 7.0 infrastructure; it’s one of if not the fastest and most user-friendly mainframes on the market.

Camera

Perhaps the smallest hardware improvement is the single 12-megapixel rear camera. Although it has no dual-sensor or wide-angle lens, it has a single sensor behind 1.7 lens which utilizes the same pixel technology as the previous slightly clumsy S7. However, the big trick up its sleeve is the ISP, the image signal processor and how it works together with the camera. The photos achieved are incredibly smooth and crisp, and the speed in which it achieves focus and quality is a definite improvement over the Galaxy S7.
