What Does the Future Hold for Mobile Gaming

The games industry is an interesting one to watch. Utilising the best technology has to offer we are always seeing what new consoles will be coming and what the future of gaming will look like. With the release of the Nintendo Switch just days away, it adds to the plethora of mobile gaming devices. So, with that in mind, what does the future hold for mobile gaming?

If you are lucky enough to be able to buy the Switch, then of course that is going to be your future for some time. For the rest of us though, a lot of our mobile gaming comes in the form of our phones. With more powerful technology released each year one of the easiest answers is of course, better looking games and more processing power to allow for more versatile games.

VR and AR

One area of gaming that Samsung have made a move into is the world of VR with the Samsung GearVR. Google have also got into the action now with Google Daydream. While Samsung may have made a good early bird impact on the industry, it does look like Daydream will have more of a success. It’ll be interesting to see where the two companies take us as they both compete for mobile VR gaming.

While VR may be the favourite buzzword of the moment, AR (Augmented Reality) is also growing in popularity. With the impact of Pokémon Go showing how popular this type of technology can be with gamers, there is plenty of interest in the mainstream market for more games of this style. We can expect to see more of this in 2017.

Free-to-Play

When it comes to mobile gaming, we all know that the real money for the companies is free-to-play games and the freemium model. Working with in-app purchases, it seems that there is now an acceptance by players that money will be involved with their games, and they are willing to pay. Big companies like Electronic Arts are putting big money into this part of the industry, and with the profits they are making, 2017 will see more free-to-play games and more in-app purchases.

From Social Games to Casino Apps

One thing that we know gaming will provide for sure is versatility. With big money being behind the rise in gaming, the industry will always be at the razor’s edge of technological progress and improvements will always be made. We’ll see more and more access to games, and there will be a focus on fun. Whether it be apps Spinit games, a mobile-friendly platform available on Android and iOS players, or games with in-app purchases and famous characters, there will be plenty of reasons for the players to be happy (and most importantly be spending cash).

Whether you are a Mario fan, a Pokémon fan, or just a fan of games in general, mobile games offer no end of fun. With 2017 just beginning, there is a whole year of new technology and new games to keep us happy. With plenty of cash being spent by both gamer and the game companies, the industry is set to have a very good year.
