Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 Review – The Second Coming of Blood Soaked Chaos

One thing I have to admit is that the finale of the first season of Ash vs Evil Dead worried me. There was a certain feel to it that made the show appear to be going in more generic direction. The second season took away those worries, and Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 ends everything on a surprisingly successful high.

The Second Coming brings a lot of surprises, and does it at such a pace that the audiences could have been lost. Thankfully though the focus is on action, and plenty of it. With Baal (Joel Tobeck) returning, as well as a whole host of characters, it’s not only Henrietta (Ted Raimi) that brings the pain to Ash (Bruce Campbell).

If you are a fan of Evil Dead, you know Ted Raimi’s connection to both the show and Bruce Campbell. One of the highlights of this finale is the way the two actors work together in their battle. They have a chemistry that allows the slapstick comedy to flow and create some genuine laughs. The final battle with Baal is also a highlight for fans of the gore.

In story terms, the focus is surprisingly on Lucy Lawless’ Ruby this time, though thankfully Dana DeLorenzo still gets her time to shine as Kelly. Ruby though is the most important character, and the changes her character goes through will obviously shape what to expect in season three.

One thing to note is a certain scene where there is a ‘passing of the book’ moment with the character of Kelly. This happens between Lucy Lawless and Dana DeLorenzo, and there has been a similar type scene between the actress and Campbell as well. I’m looking forward to where her character is going, as she is obviously being moulded into being a badass hero, something of a female Ash equal in their kick-assery (yes I made that word up). She is fast becoming one of my favourite characters of the show.

When it comes to the way the show ends this time, it feels a lot less forced, but also a little too positive. It almost feels like Ash is having a dream of how the battle should end. It also feels obvious though that this is the calm before the storm, and everything is set for season three.

When looking at season two and how Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 fits the completed story line, it is nice to see that everything has been wrapped up nicely, and a strong future has been set up. We’ve had an interesting ‘Big Bad’ in the form of Baal, and we know who will take up the reigns of evil in the next season. So, for fans of the show, everything is looking good. All we have to do now is to survive the break, and get our Ash vs Evil Dead fix once more.

Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 ends the season on a good note, and it also shows what a good time it is for fans of horror television. Hopefully this era of horror TV will be set to last for some time, but even if the bubble burst and the shows started to show weaknesses, Ash vs Evil Dead is one that should stand tall as one of the best.

Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 is available in the UK on Virgin Media video on demand now.
