How Much Excitement Surrounds The New Ghostbusters Movie?

Ghostbusters is not just one of the most iconic and influential comedies of all time it’s become one of the most iconic movies of all time. It’s one of those rare movie experiences that a generation grew up with that now sits firmly in the public’s consciousness. The story, the effects, the characters and the performances were outstanding and it deserved any success and accolade it received in the mid 80’s. But now more than 30 years later a new Ghostbusters movie is on its way.

Paul Feig’s ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot will hit theatres this July and it’s pulled the old switcheroo on us. The new ghostbusting outing will feature a foursome of female busters instead of the old gang but what’s more is that the film itself won’t actually be related to the other two movies.

Whilst this has confused and bewildered many people you will have to remember that Bill Murray wasn’t keen on reprising his role as Peter Venkman in a ‘Ghostbusters 3’ project no matter how hard writer Dan Aykroyd tried. Then following the untimely death of Harold Ramis, the writer and star of the original, back in 2014 it seemed the project was almost dead in the water. And that’s where comedy director and writer Paul Feig stepped in.

Following back to back hits with ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘The Heat’ and ‘Spy’ he seemed like the ideal choice to replace Ivan Reitman behind the camera. A little spit balling later and the idea of an all-girl ghostbusting team was on the table. And who better to strap on a proton pack than Melissa McCarthy who has worked several times with Feig previously.

It’s been a long time coming and even though the world of Ghostbusters has quite literally been turned on its head many are still intrigued to see just how this one will pan out. We’re still waiting to catch a glimpse at the first trailer for the movie which will hopefully give us a better idea of the way in which this project is being handled by Feig and the girls.

Thankfully fans of the original won’t be too disappointed as almost the entire main cast of the original two movies will be making special cameos throughout the reboot. However, it should be noted that they will not be returning as their characters and will play entirely new roles. That’s because people, this is a reboot! And quite frankly is the only way Bill Murray was ever going to appear in another Ghostbusters movie. Alongside Murray there’ll be appearances from original co-stars Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. Unfortunately Rick Moranis was rumoured to have passed on the chance to make a cameo due to his dislike of the script.

So if you’re looking to get excited about the return of the Ghostbusters universe then you may want to re-watch and enjoy the original or play the spooky Peek-a-Boo online slot available at Euro Palace to get yourself in the mood.

Ghostbusters opens in theatres across the US on 15th July.
