‘WWE: Battleground 2015’ Review (Blu-ray)

WWE: Battleground 2015 promised big matches and the beginnings of a revolution. Whether it delivered that is to be seen, but with the card WWE had put together there was definitely promise of something special.

With the lower card featuring Shaemus vs Randy Orton, Primetime Players vs. New Day and Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt WWE: Battleground 2015 did start off strong. This was especially the case with the tag team match, with New Day definitely finally delivering with not only the talent in the ring but also comedy from Xavier Woods.

Where my problem comes is with the Diva match, which I’m sure you’ll know I normally try to take no notice of. The shame is this is where the big “revolution” is meant to begin, but where instead starts to stutter before it even began. While we get a positive result and there are moments of hope, what can’t be ignored is the warning signs of why this promise change may not come.

While you can bring some of the best female talent from NXT to keep the fans happy you can’t just stuff them into the Diva division and expect to maintain the status quo. The gulf between the talented newcomers and lacklustre talent is very easy to see. Just look at Monday’s Raw (September 14) for proof of that. There is still time for this to change, hopefully it will.

Back onto the positive, we then have John Cena vs. Kevin Owens in another classic match. Watching Cena work this match, once again he does have to be praised for his ability to improve himself and actually add new moves into his matches. Kevin Owens as usual delivers also, using the good chemistry he has with John Cena in the ring to make this probably the match of the night.

Moving to the main event we then have Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar, and while I won’t spoil the ending for the fight it was hardly a shock to see how it ended. While rumours on websites aren’t exactly meant to be trusted, and most are just entertaining to read. The fact that most were reporting how it would end came as no surprise at all. Is this a sign of the predictability of WWE at the moment? I’d say most definitely. The fact is though even as predictable as the writing is becoming, it is still entertaining to watch…most of the time.

While WWE: Battleground 2015 once again highlights many things that are wrong with WWE writing, it still manages to deliver in entertainment. It is hard to ignore that people like Seth Rollins, John Cena, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar and others do all they can to make things entertaining and they manage to do it. What I will say is if we are promised a revolution in the Diva division then we really should see it delivered, now that the Diva division has plenty of talent, it is about time it was used right.

WWE: Battleground 2015 is available in the UK on DVD and Blu-ray now.
