With a cast obviously aimed at comedy, the trailer gives Jack the Giant Slayer a feel of movies like Gulliver’s Travels. I’d rather them concentrate on the action personally and prefer for them to concentrate more on the slaying rather than the comedy; it’s obvious though the push is going to be more for laughs than anything.
On a side note the giants themselves do remind me of a cross between the trolls from Troll Hunter and the giants in the Cossgrove Halls Films version of the BFG which is interesting when there have been talks of a new live action version of that film in the works. Obviously the CGI used for the giants themselves needs a bit of work on, and this is just a trailer but personally I think this is looking good. Oh, and am I the only person who feels like Ewan McGregor forgot he’s not playing Obi Wan Kenobi anymore? he sure feels the “Force” in this performance.
An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
