Dead Hooker in a Trunk

I like movies that are totally crazy, that are totally out there and don’t hide the fact. Put it this way, I love movies that are totally bat shit crazy. I think that’s the reason I may have just fell in love with Dead Hooker in a Trunk.

It all starts out calm enough, after a good night out three women wake up wondering what the hell they did the night before. Picking up one of the women’s friend (a goody two-shoes church goer who seems to think everybody but him are going to hell) we are introduced to our four main characters, plus one more. Turns out they have a dead body in the trunk of their car. In England we call it boot of course, but I’m keeping the review relevant to the name of the movie so stop complaining about my Americanised review technique here ok?

So, they have a dead body in the trunk of their car. Now if this was a normal group of people they would just take the body to the cops right? Well if they did it would not be much of a movie now would it? Turns out the women can’t decide if they killed the woman or not, so now they have to go on the hunt for the truth or just dispose of the body, whichever comes first. What follows is a crazy adventure including drug dealers, pimps, loss of limbs and even loss of eye balls. I’m sure that’s caught your interest.

Straight from the start this movie breaks the mould. Even with the characters we are introduced to, we never learn their names we just know them by the way they act. We have the Junkie, and yes you guessed it all she wants to do is get high and when she needs to kick some ass. Then there are the twins, one a geek and the other a total psycho badass (who rules). Then of course there is the goody two-shoes male of the group who seems to spend all his time puking and falling in love with the geek. It’s a cute little relationship that becomes more and more apparent throughout the story and adds a nice little touch to the mayhem. Of course we can’t forget the hooker. By the end of the movie she’s like another friend to the group, it’s almost a twisted version of Weekend at Bernie’s and that just adds more to the story. The fact that they discover just what happened to her; even though they don’t have a choice in making that discovery is the key to the movie really and makes the recent censorship issues in Canada seem foolish.

This is not a movie about a group of people killing a hooker, this is a movie about finding out why she is in the boot and not actually dead. When small minded people who have no intention of watching it attack it over the fact prostitutes are killed and the name is in bad taste, would it not be a smarter move to actually watch the movie rather than just attacking the subject matter. I’m pretty sure that they would be “outraged” by what they see in the movie but they won’t find anything that warrants banning something like this. It’s a question of taste; if this type of movie is not to your taste then don’t watch it. It’s quite simple really isn’t it?

So, when you have a chance to see this movie should you? Hell yes you should. When it’s released I will be buying it and it will have pride of place next to Natural Born Killers, a Clockwork Orange and all my other crazy movies that I love. I’m just hoping we get more independent movies like this, because it’s movies that are made with an obvious love of what they are doing that really makes my addiction to watching them worth it and this will be one that I will be watching again.
